Nearly everyone experienced the feeling of isolation and loneliness during the global pandemic. Unfortunately, these feelings are common for older adults, especially those facing neurodegenerative diseases.

When the pandemic hit, Adira released emergency funds so its partners could continue serving the vulnerable older adults in its community. Staff worked tirelessly with partners to build resources in a safe but meaningful way to ensure aging adults remained connected even while isolated at home.

To continue the effort, Adira is asking for support as it participates in the annual Give65 Event.

The sixth-annual Give65 Event takes place July 13-16 as a 65-hour online giving campaign exclusively for charitable organizations serving aging adults and presented by Home Instead Charities. Adira is raising funds for Take Care Community, a clearinghouse of credible resources to help family caregivers navigate the siloes in U.S. health, social, and long-term care systems. The online resource is a joint initiative with National Alliance for Caregiving.

Adira Chief Development and External Affairs Officer Marilyn Spinner said: “Adira relies on the generosity of its community to support its vital services and programs that help people with neurodegenerative diseases live dignity and on their own terms.”

During the Give65 Event, Adira is also raising funds with the hopes of receiving up to $5,000 in matching funds from Home Instead Charities.

“Give65 allows us to help caregivers in our community while raising awareness of the critical need for the programs and services they rely on to safely live independently,” Spinner said. “The match not only increases the impact of the donations received, but we are hopeful it inspires people to give back.”

The 65-hour Give65 Event begins at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 13 and concludes at 2 a.m. ET on July 16. The match ends when $150,000 in donations have been matched, so be sure to give as close to 9 a.m. ET as possible.

Lenli Corbett, executive director of Home Instead Charities, said: “COVID-19 has really highlighted the challenges aging adults face every day.”

“Supporting aging adults and providing them the tools to define their own aging journey is always important, but particularly during a global pandemic,” she said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Adira Foundation for the sixth-annual Give65 Event and hope our partnership inspires greater charitable giving in support of older adults who rely on the important work of the charitable sector.”
