RICHMOND, VIRGINIA — Adira Foundation has established an eight-member External Affairs Advisory Roundtable to advise its communications and development work.

Founder and CEO Greg Smiley said the roundtable offers an abundance of riches for Adira.

“These professionals are freely giving their expertise and ideas from their careers in government, health care, legal, music, philanthropy, business and beyond,” he said. “Their cheerful, generous advice humbles us. We intend to enact it with as much enthusiasm as they share it.”

Laura Angel-Lalanne

Angel-Lalanne is special counsel at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, where she represents high-net-worth individuals in estate planning and trust and estate administration, with an emphasis on charitable planning.

Stephen Bennett

Bennett recently founded Caravanserai Project, dedicated to helping others on their journey working with social impact and entrepreneurs after 13 years as the CEO of United Cerebral Palsy, World Wide.

Erik Cooke

Cooke is the senior director of grant development and research for Easterseals, one of the country’s largest disability service providers.

James Hodge

Hodge is the chief strategist for philanthropy at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus working with benefactors who make leadership gifts to advance research, education and clinical care at the medical center.

Kamala Maddali

Maddali is a life sciences executive and board advisor with over 20 years of deep expertise in precision medicine, implementing strategic initiatives across many Fortune 500 companies, including Merck and Co., Quintiles, and Quest Diagnostics.

Joff Masukawa

Masukawa is president and founder of Diligentia Strategy, a life-sciences consultancy founded in 2015.

Herb K. Schultz

Schultz is the president of HKS Strategies LLC whose career includes decades of recognized leadership as a bi-partisan strategic leader of both public, private, nonprofit, and philanthropic organizations at the local, state, and national levels.

Joe Sparkman

Sparkman is a Grammy-award winning music producer who also co-founded a million-dollar medical company, Medsav.

First meeting

The roundtable’s first meeting took place Feb. 24 over Zoom.

Adira’s Chief Development and External Affairs Officer Marilyn Spinner said bringing together this impressive and diverse group is another gain for Adira and a great beginning to 2021.

“It certainly confirmed the talent, perspectives and experience that are collectively brought forward with this group,” she said. “We have much to do, and are so grateful for each minute they have given to help those who have complex health live their best lives.”
